Gallagher’s current deal expires in 2025 (Picture: Getty)Mauricio Pochettino is hopeful Conor Gallagher will sign a new long-term contract with Chelsea. The England international has started nine Premier League matches, wearing the captain’s armband in four of those in the absence of Reece James and impressing alongside Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo in midfield. Gallagher signed a five-year deal with Chelsea back in 2020 and will enter the final 18 months of that deal in January. James has made just two Premier League appearances so far this season, starting against Liverpool on the opening day of the season and coming off the bench against Arsenal last week. ‘No he’s still not ready to start,’ Pochettino said..‘I think he’s doing well, he was training really well.
