The Mavericks have praised Josh Green’s offseason development throughout training camp the last two weeks. The Mavericks announced on Tuesday that the front office exercised the fourth-year, $4.8 million team option on Green’s rookie contract for the 2023-24 season, positioning Green to play this season and next under team control. Green, 21, will enter restricted free agency in the 2024 offseason, eligible for a $6.8 million qualifying offer from the Mavericks, who would otherwise receive compensation should another team sign him away. The deadline for teams to pick up third- and fourth-year rookie options is Oct. 31. He has run with the Mavericks’ starting unit as the shooting guard in several scrimmages during training camp with Kidd highlighting him as a potential new ball-handler to add depth and versatility in Jalen Brunson’s absence.
