Max Dyche helps Northampton end losing run with battling draw at Barnsley

After David McGoldrick cancelled out Nesta Guiness-Walker’s opener, substitute Adam Phillips thought he had given his Barnsley side the three points just seconds after coming on – only for Max Dyche to rescue a point for the Cobblers. It took just three minutes for the away side to take the lead as Guinness-Walker tapped home after Owen Goodman parried Cameron McGeehan’s effort straight into his path. Both Vimal Yoganathan and Patrick Kelly had good chances to level for the hosts, but it was the veteran McGoldrick who headed in a Scott Banks free-kick to equalise on the half-hour mark. Just seconds after coming off the bench, Phillips touched home a McGoldrick cross to give his side the lead in the 62nd minute but Dyche capitalised on some suspect defending to level nine minutes later. Northampton remain second bottom but are now a point off safety, while Barnsley moved up to 14th.
