Photo: PAThe religious orders were charged with providing homes for children and their vulnerable mothers, and to protect them. The religious orders signed an agreement 20 years ago that would indemnify them from claims resulting from the reign of terror and abuse they rolled out over the decades. Some €128m was supposed to have been handed over by 18 religious orders. Maybe it is time that affirmative action be taken by the State. The Church also had a direct managerial responsibility, through various religious orders, in many of these institutions.
