Mayors are urging the government to rethink a 40% cut to the body tasked with improving transport in the North. Transport for the North (TfN) is set to have its budget slashed from £10m in 2020/21 to £6m in 2021/22. “Instead, the proposed cuts will hold back the modernisation of our network and the improved connections we so urgently need in the North. “In the next financial year, TfN have access to over £70m of funding, the majority of which will help develop proposals for Northern Powerhouse Rail. “Our Integrated Rail Plan will soon outline exactly how major rail projects, including HS2 and Northern Powerhouse Rail, will work together to deliver the reliable train services that passengers need and deserve.”
