The CSOs also urged the Police Service Commission to terminate appointments of the members of the Eagle Crack team involved in the reported torture of Chima and four others; Ifeanyi Onyekwere, Victor Ogbonna, Osaze Friday and Ifeanyi Osuji. The PUNCH reported that Chima and four of his friends were arrested on December 19, 2019, after being labelled armed robbers and cultists. Chima was said to have died after undergoing tremendous torture by some personnel of the Eagle Crack team of the Nigeria Police Force. They also demanded that the entire Eagle Crack Unit of the Police Force be dissolved, adding that those responsible for Chima’s torture and death be immediately prosecuted because they acted against the Police Act, especially as it concerned the torture of suspects. “We call on the Inspector-General of Police to redeploy the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, on the following grounds; the E-crack unit is the Commissioner of Police tactical unit and they are answerable to him.”
