Media, NBTC make pact on crisis coverage

(Photo by Prasit Tangprasert)Six media organisations and the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) agreed on Thursday to promote oversight of their work to address growing public concerns in the wake of the Nakhon Ratchasima mass shooting. Several digital TV channels have come under fire for "intruding" while reporting on the shooting spree, in which 30 people were killed and 58 others injured. The media organisations will then be required to inform the NBTC of the measures taken and the regulator will check to see if these measures are adequate and take action accordingly, he said. Three digital TV channels have been called in for talks with the NBT on Feb 18 to explain why they compromised rescue efforts. Meanwhile, One Channel (31) was found to have pulled the highest ratings from 6pm to midnight on Feb 8 while it was covering the massacre, according to TV Digital Watch.
