Meet 'Putin's No.1 enemy' who took down the Guptas in the US - and was inspired by Steve Biko

In December 2009, London-based financier William Browder was at his holiday home in Cape Town when he watched a film about murdered anti-apartheid fighter Steve Biko. It was a moment that would not only change his life, but ultimately lead to decisive legislative changes in countries across the globe, infuriating Russian President Vladimir Putin and making Browder one of the Kremlin's greatest foreign enemies. Browder and his family had flown to the Mother City, where he has had a house since 2001, following the death of his friend and attorney Sergei Magnitsky during pre-trial detention in a Russian jail. Magnitsky died on 16 November 2009, following what Browder said was months of medical neglect and torture by Russian authorities.
