Merchant in hot water over 'fake gems'The Consumer Protection Police Division (CPPD) has arrested “Nicha”, a well-known online vendor of luxury goods, for allegedly deceiving customers by selling synthetic diamonds marketed as natural, in a case with reportedly more than 100 victims. She later shifted to selling diamond jewellery through a Facebook page with more than 110,000 followers. Police said that, in the early stages, customers were sent genuine diamonds in order to build trust. Victims said the market value of the products delivered was more than 10 times lower than what had been promised. The offer led many customers to believe they could wear the jewellery at no real cost while also earning a return.
