On the same day that now-disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein used her in defense of himself in a sexual misconduct lawsuit, Meryl Streep has released a fiery statement condemning him for dragging her name into the muck. On Wednesday, his lawyers cited Streep and a handful of other A-listers as evidence that some women continued to work with him in a professional manner. “Harvey Weinstein’s attorneys’ use of my (true) statement ─ that he was not sexually transgressive or physically abusive in our business relationship ─ as evidence that he was not abusive with many OTHER women is pathetic and exploitive. “Regardless of how many good movies, made by many good people, Harvey was lucky enough to have acquired or financed,” she concluded. This isn’t the first time that Weinstein’s attorneys have brought names to his defense without permission.
