Methane emissions from the energy sector remain high


After an uptick in 2023, methane emissions originating from fossil fuels appear poised to enter a downward trajectory. The IEA’s latest Global Methane Tracker reports that fossil fuel activities contributed nearly 120 million tonnes of methane emissions in 2023, showing a slight increase from the previous year.
