Pictures by Mayukh SenguptaNew Town: The owners of three shops housed in a New Town building that stands in the way of the New Garia-Airport Metro link and will be pulled down vacated their establishments on Wednesday. The Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation has announced that it will start demolishing from Thursday four buildings in New Town that fully or partially occupy government plots and stand in the way of the Metro link. The owners of the buildings had till Wednesday to approach the commissioner of the Bidhannagar civic body for compensation. Officials said the demolition would start on Thursday with Mohishgote Free Primary School, which had been vacated a few years ago. The construction of the 1.45km viaduct between Mahishbathan and New Town for the tracks of the New Garia-Airport Metro link could not start in six years because of the buildings.
