ENLARGE The Mets, who lost first baseman Lucas Duda to a back injury, traded for 10-year veteran James Loney on Saturday for cash considerations. “We are very, very happy to get James,” said Mets manager Terry Collins, who added he has known Loney since he was 17. As part of that effort, they acquired James Loney from the Padres for cash considerations on Saturday, betting on a veteran player providing consistent play at a position where the team has a giant question mark. The Mets hope Loney can help add consistency during Duda’s stay on the disabled list. “He can step up and help us,” said Mets backup catcher Rene Rivera, who played with Loney in Tampa Bay.
