Mexican runners won't hit the wall in Waterfront Marathon

Araiz Arriola, a popular running blogger from Mexico City, has just arrived in Toronto to run the marathon here for the first time. Arriola ran the Chicago marathon earlier this month and, once she was in the city, which has a large Mexican community and has long been a favourite destination marathon, she felt welcome. A big city marathon isn’t just a 42.2-kilometre run; it’s an event to build a vacation around, similar to Caribana or Pride. “This year is really our effort to tell Mexican runners what Toronto is all about,” says Brookes, race director for the Canada Running Series. The charity challenge is another appeal of the Toronto race for Arriola and Corach, who have been raising funds for building reconstruction after the devastating earthquake in Mexico City last month.
