As of right now, there is only one group with real interest in buying the Miami Marlins, and no one has submitted a formal "bid" for the MLB team, despite reports to the contrary. My sources say the Jeter-Bush group can put in about $200 million of equity and are currently "running around looking to raise money." Miami Heat owner Micky Arison, the one billionaire who seriously thought about buying the Marlins a couple of years ago, has decided against it. But bankers I have spoken to have no idea who this guy really is, if he really has interest in the Marlins, or his actual wealth. As I wrote the other day, the "headline" sale price for the Marlins has already dropped by $400 million over just the past few months.
