The British star was best known for his work on World War Two epic The Dam Busters and classic sci-fi movie Logan's Run. On his return, Anderson went back to movie-making and enjoyed huge success directing The Dam Busters, which became the most popular movie at the British Box Office in 1955. Anderson was subsequently nominated for A Golden Globe and an Academy Award for his direction - with the film winning best picture. His son Michael Anderson Jr. works as an actor and appeared in Logan's Run and The Martian's Chronicles.
