Scottish political life is full to the brim with irony. It is a stale, even moribund, discussion, but also one that leaches into everything else. So round and round we go, in ever smaller, less productive circles. Nothing happens and nothing changes and if you think we’re trapped it’s because we are. Scotland’s argument with itself is a constitutional pastiche of Waiting for Godot, without the jokes or the heart-swelling optimism.
