Michigan State University trustees named Samuel Stanley Jr. as its new president, hoping the current Stony Brook University president can help the school navigate its way past the Larry Nassar sex-abuse scandal. Dr. Stanley, an infectious disease specialist, takes over from Satish Udpa, who was an executive vice president and served as acting president since January. Former Michigan Gov. John Engler was tapped as interim president in January 2018, but left in January of this year, after a tumultuous term.
