They are dramatic events that while they are happening leave you thinking nothing can ever be the same again. Yet when the waters recede, it is striking how quickly so much returns to something like normal. And so, nearly three weeks after the Holyrood elections, it is more apparent than ever that very little has really changed. In the immediate aftermath there was all kinds of excitable talk about the prospects for a fresh referendum on independence. Once again, the break-up of Britain was all but upon us — and Newsnight and Channel 4 and Sky News sent emissaries north to report on the latest action beyond the wall —
