One of the best hitters in baseball – of his generation – could not possibly go a full calendar year between home runs. Injuries have been a huge factor and more or less ended his 2018 very early, but Miguel Cabrera's last HR was April 28, 2018. That was meaningful because the Tigers had signed him to an eight-year, $248 million extension in 2014, before his previous extension expired. When it kicked in for 2016, it made Cabrera the highest paid baseball player ever by average annual value ($31 million per season). And in the first year of the extension, Cabrera was productive.
