The Joint Task Force of the Nigerian Army in the Niger Delta, code names Operation Delta Safe (ODS), have confirmed the killing of one of its personnel, promising to ensure the perpetrators of the heinous attack are brought to book. In a statement signed and issued by the spokesman of ODS, Major Jonah Unuakhalu, preliminary Investigation is ongoing to identify the person’s or groups behind the attack. Parts of the statement read “at about 3 am today, unknown gunmen attacked own gunboat deployed close to the house of former President Goodluck Jonathan. However, during the attack, one soldier paid the supreme price and another wounded in action. The former president and other top government functionaries have also visited the community to assure us of our safety.”
