While working on a recipe for old-fashioned date squares for my upcoming cookbook, a friend commented that she always uses prepared mincemeat instead of dates for the filling. I always use prepared mincemeat for my holiday mince tarts, but never end up using the entire jar. Stir to combine and until each flake of butter is well-coated with oat mixture. Add about half of oat mixture to the prepared pan. Sprinkle evenly with remaining oat mixture.
