Scientists have created a miniature 'wind turbine' that 'scavenges' energy from a breeze created during a brisk walk. The 'nano-generator', which is made of two plastic strips in a tube, captures and stores wind energy to power electronic devices. It's inspired by giant wind turbines that convert the kinetic energy of wind into power, but it shrinks the concept down to something that could be worn around the wrist. High costs, resulting noise and 'aesthetic pollution' are still issues of the full-scale wind turbines that offer a carbon-free source of energy. 'I'm hoping to scale up the device to produce 1,000 watts, so it's competitive with traditional wind turbines,' said Yang.
