Any reduction in oil excise tax must account for the government's projected total revenue and the extent of the impact. This resulted in a loss of more than 100 billion baht in excise tax revenue. Retail fuel prices are structured from the ex-refinery price, plus excise tax, marketing margin and value-added tax. Excise tax on fuel is levied per litre, so regardless of fluctuations in global oil prices, the tax burden per litre remains unchanged. The excise tax for biodiesel (B5 and B7) is 6.92 baht per litre, while 100% gasoline is taxed at 8.50 baht per litre.
