Tim Walz mobilized the city’s National Guard to help control the unrest, NBC News reported. “I didn’t think this would happen again after the George Floyd riots,” witness and resident Janelle Beenken told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. As he accepted his renomination at the Republican National Convention Wednesday night, he addressed the mass unrest sparked across the U.S. since Floyd’s killing. Minneapolis’ neighbor, the nearby Kenosha, Wisconsin, has also seen unrest this week as people protest the police shooting of Jacob Blake, a Black man.
