When the cover on a large utility well at a busy intersection goes missing, it’s an invitation for knuckleheads to mess with the wires in it. And when a warning inside mentions the possibility of laser radiation, it seems like a no-brainer for the utility responsible to ensure that the hole never flips its lid. We were driving last week when we spotted a large hole in the ground at the southeast corner of St. Clair and Warden Aves., partly covered by two pieces of wood that in no way were up to the job. So we circled back to take a look and found a utility well filled with bundles of telecommunications wiring, along with enough leaves and street trash to suggest it had been uncovered for a long time. A closer examination revealed a bright yellow sticker on one of the bundles, which said: “Caution laser radiation when open call Rogers cable TV.”
