Mombasa Governor Joho sentenced to 60 days in jail or Sh250,000 fine

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho. [File, Standard]Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has been sentenced to 60 days in jail, or pay a fine of Sh250,000 for overseeing the demolition of private property in breach of a court order. Environment and Land Court Judge, Sila Munyao, noted that the county boss demolished Mombasa tycoon Ashok Doshi’s perimeter wall in Changamwe on May 10, 2019, despite the existence of a court order barring the destruction. Joho has been punished alongside Changamwe MCA Bernard Ogutu, who has been fined Sh20,000 or 14 days’ imprisonment. Unlike Joho, Ogutu honoured court summons but was still found guilty of defying a court directive over his involvement in the demolition of Doshi’s perimeter wall.
