It's a bleak forecast with thunder, heavy rain, localised flooding and winter-like temperatures expected on Thursday and Friday. A severe thunderstorm watch is in place for Waikato and Waitomo, which could both see rain of up to 25mm per hour, MetService meteorologist Tui McInnes said. "The intensity associated with these showers is heavy enough so that you can get localised flooding.Thunderstorms always bring that risk. But the rain and thunder should subside by Saturday, with the sun possibly making an appearance.
