Morocco has emerged as the fastest-growing supplier of tomatoes to the German market over the past two decades, multiplying its export volumes nearly fivefold, UN data showed. Moroccan shipments to Germany jumped from 12,710 tons in 2005 to 74,890 tons in 2024, an exceptional 489% increase that outpaces every other major supplier. This rapid expansion has lifted Morocco’s market share to nearly 10%, compared with less than 2% twenty years ago. Despite this remarkable rise, Morocco still trails the Netherlands, long the dominant supplier, which delivered 360,200 tons to Germany in 2024, accounting for 47.93% of total imports. Spain remains the second-largest source, sending 216,180 tons in 2024, or 28.77% of the market.
