Morrisons’ turnaround pays off as profits continue to rise


Morrisons said it had ”returned the business to its core customers” David Parry / PA:Press AssociationThe turnaround programme at WM Morrison appeared to be well on track today after the grocer reported a healthy rise in first half profits and sales. Morrisons said its like-for-like sales were up 1.4 per cent in the half year to July 31 which was well ahead of the market expectations of a 0.7 per cent rise. This is the third consecutive quarter of positive like-for-likes and comes after 16 quarters of decline before that. The Bradford-based grocer’s underlying pre-tax profit was also better than expected at £157 million which was up 11 per cent on this time last year.…
