Motion tabled in West Bengal Assembly over harassment of Bengali speakers across IndiaWest Bengal Assembly has taken up a motion addressing growing harassment of Bengali-speaking people in other Indian states. Bengali-speaking people outside West Bengal. It claims incidents of physical assault and mental harassment of Bengali speakers are increasing in several Indian states. Migrant workers from West Bengal are often insulted as “Bangladeshi”, forcibly detained, and extorted for ransom. The motion noted that attacks and discrimination against Bengali speakers violate freedom of speech, human rights, and constitutional rights.
