He was with his girlfriend, Bowmanville's Laurie Bailey, in Port Perry at the time of the shooting. Although they didn’t live together, Bailey recalls Rattu would do things like cut her lawn and do the dishes while she was at work. According to SIU director Tony Loparco, the officer was unable to stall Rattu until another officer arrived with a Taser. Loparco noted that aside from holding a knife, Rattu was “physically imposing,” and displaying hostility and combativeness. She also wants to know the identities of the nine civilian witnesses interviewed as part of the SIU investigation.
