Much-loved Northumberland artist, veteran and former miner celebrates his 100th birthday

Tom Fleming, from Woodhorn Village, Ashington, will mark the momentous birthday on January 2, 2021. Noted for his calligraphy, which has been featured in exhibitions across the North East and sent across the world, he's also the published author of a book of war diaries, recounting his daily experiences with the Royal Army Medical Corps during the Second World War. "He's 100 years old and he's really lived it, he's done so many things. He shared his passion by teaching the art and founded the Society for Northumbrian Scribes in 1989. At the age of 92, he was honoured by a major retrospective exhibition of his work, at the University of Sunderland.
