Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has hit back at retired President Uhuru Kenyatta over his remarks on the protection of political parties, accusing him of hypocrisy. “It is dishonest for the former President to lecture the country on protecting political parties when his record shows the opposite,” Mudavadi said. At the ceremony, Uhuru criticised leaders he accused of meddling in the internal affairs of other political parties and called for cooperation and unity to strengthen national cohesion. Uhuru praised the late Jirongo as a staunch defender of multiparty democracy and a political heavyweight, saying he possessed the stature and capacity to become President. “If there was a person who truly respected and upheld multiparty democracy, then it was Cyrus Jirongo,” Kenyatta said.
