Fellow soldier Ste Nichols, who runs a veterans’ support group, told us: “Whenever the phone rings I think it’s another one. In Afghanistan, more soldiers were killed or wounded in action in 2009 than in any other year. “I had to deal with guys getting killed, blown in half, double amputees. Although the deaths were self-inflicted, coroners have ruled some of the soldiers and veterans may have died by misadventure.
