Leah Hynes was taken to hospital with a suspected chest infection after becoming poorly on her birthday at the end of August. She developed a severe cough and temperature while travelling home with her mother after going out for a celebratory meal. Her inconsolable mother Susan McDonald described the moment doctors told her the words every parent dreads. “The MRI scan on her brain showed no activity and there was severe brain damage to both sides of her brain. “I fell to pieces.”Mrs McDonald, from nearby Radcliffe, said Leah suffered severe brain damage as a result.
