Tins of beans and sausages and lentil and bacon soup were just some of the pork items sent to vulnerable families in "care packages" during the coronavirus lockdown. The scheme is being operated by a private company which won the £104m government contract to drop off vital food supplies to “extremely clinically vulnerable”. But irate families say they were given tins of beans and sausages and lentil and bacon soup following the blunder, reports the Guardian. Eating of pork is forbidden in Muslim, Sikh, Hindu and Jewish religious traditions. Some 3million food boxes had been sent across the UK from March after two companies - Brakes and Bidfood - were awarded a lucrative government contracts.
