Muslims and Hindus set example of communal harmony in Nagarpur

For over 50 years, Muslims and Hindus in Nagarpur of Tangail have been maintaining communal harmony by performing religious rituals peacefully at a mosque and a temple built not too far from each other. The mosque and the temple are built in the Choudhury Bari area of the upazila where people of the Hindu community are celebrating Durga Puja this year. Both communities are careful not to disrupt each other’s prayers and thus activities that require a microphone or loud instruments are prohibited for Hindus when Muslims are offering prayers. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Wahiduzzaman told Dhaka Tribune that they are monitoring the Durga Puja celebrations at the temple so that no untoward incident takes place there. Durga Puja is being observed at 1,262 temples and pavilions in the district this year.
