A resident of Jansath town in Muzaffarnagar, Qasmi was initially given ‘Y’ Category security by state government following threat perception after the 2013 riots. I came to know about the threat through media, which stated that Tanzeel wanted to get me killed. A prominent cleric in Muzaffarnagar has urged the administration to enhance his security cover claiming that slain NIA Deputy Superintendent Tanzeel Ahmed had given a contract to a gangster to kill him. Qasmi’s eldest son Maulana Mohammad Luqman, who met SSP Deepak Kumar on Sunday, claimed it was his father for whom the contract was given.
