In Killarney this week, 3,000 people attended a ceremony to become Irish citizens. The reaction, as usual with these events, was almost uniformly positive and welcoming. The taoiseach said that the people gathered in Co Kerry were among the 120,000 or so who had become Irish citizens since 2011. Again, most welcome news, but a small number urged him to sort out problems for his own people before inviting more in. They assert that immigrants push up house prices and drive down wages.…
