NGO seeks prosecution of taxi aggregators

more-inA Delhi court has concluded pre-summoning evidence of a non-government organisation on its complaint seeking prosecution and challaning of app-based taxi service providers Ola, Uber and Taxi for Sure for alleged violations of various provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicles Act (MVA). Metropolitan Magistrate at Tis Hazari courts Abhilash Malhotra on Wednesday adjourned the matter to July 13 to seek certain clarifications from the complainant, and thereafter he will decide whether to summon these service providers or not. Tourist permitComplainant Nyayabhoomi alleged that facilitating vehicles with tourist permits registered in Delhi and other States to ply and provide services on point-to-point basis was a violation of the law. They were charging passengers by mobile apps, whereas permit conditions and rules stipulate that fares should be charged as per the meters fitted in the vehicles, the complaint further said. The government has so far cumulatively lost around ₹91, 000 crore from 2013 to 2016 by not registering cases and issuing challans against these vehicles, the complaint added.
