NHS staff will face 'massive levels of burnout' and their mental health will be 'very fragile' once the pandemic ends, a top doctor has warned. Dr Lewis Morrison, the chair of the British Medical Association in Scotland, spoke about the impact the pandemic was having on health professionals. To help the health service recover, he argued there must be a 'proper plan for recruitment and retention' after the pandemic. 'It seems blatantly obvious to me that if we had had better pandemic preparedness because of a much better resourced public health service we would not be where we are today having this conference virtually.' There is not now just the pandemic, it has been flu vaccinations, other health and care provision.'
