NMP Executive Director Joel Maglunsod awarding the Certificate of Completion to one of the participants PHOTO COURTESY OF THE NMPThe fisherfolks and skippers of Hinungan, Leyte underwent Basic Safety Training last May 7 and 8 as part of the city's campaign to prevent maritime incidents and loss of lives at sea. 65 select residents of the municipality took the Basic Safety Training for Motorboat Handlers/Fisherfolks (Bstmhf) that was conducted by trainers from the National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP). NMP is the sole government maritime training and research center in the country. With Nmp advocating for the safety of life at sea, we have partnered with the government units to enhance the basic safety skills of our motorboat handlers, operators, and fisherfolks," Joel Maglunsod, NMP Executive Director, said. Physical interactions were minimized during the said training by holding the theoretical lectures online, while the practical assessment was done in strict observance of health protocols.
