The National Oil Corporation (NOC) and Algeria’s Sonatrach have reported a new oil and gas discovery in the Ghadames Basin, underscoring ongoing exploration activity in one of North Africa’s key hydrocarbon regions. The find follows the drilling of the A1-69/02 exploratory well in Contract Area 96/95, operated by Sonatrach, about 70 kilometres from the Al-Wafa field, according to a statement from the NOC. The well reached a total depth of 8,440 feet and is producing around 13 million cubic feet of gas and 327 barrels per day of condensate from the Awynat Wanin and Awyn Kaza formations. The discovery marks the sixth well drilled by Sonatrach out of eight planned under its exploration and production sharing agreement with the NOC, signed in 2008.
