Tim Simona has been deregistered by the NRL for a range of rule breaches, including betting against his team winning and on opposition players scoring against his team. The NRL stopped short of imposing a life ban, but continuing his rugby league career in Australia in the future appears unlikely. "Based on the evidence we have identified it is very hard to imagine that Tim Simona will be registered with the NRL at any time in the future," NRL chief executive Todd Greenberg said in a statement on Friday. His rugby league career is in extreme doubt, with England's Rugby Football League indicating the door could be closed on him playing in the Super League. His prospects of playing in the NRL again would come down to the league's discretion.
