NYC launching program to pay young criminal offenders $1K per month for participation, good behavior: reports

A New York City pilot program has come under fire by some for what local reports describe as a plan to pay young criminal offenders $1,000 each month for their continued involvement in the program and good behavior. The program is being tested through five police precincts, one in each of the New York City boroughs, according to a Mayor’s Office press release from March. De Blasio said during a press conference at the time that Williams approached him about utilizing the Advance Peace model. New York City reportedly allocated $1 million toward the pilot program. Neidhardt pointed to the results of the similar Richmond model, where Advance Peace statistics show gun-related assaults fell 66% between 2010 and 2017.
