The Times’ use of Reed’s unverified “red flag list” is perhaps its most egregious use so far of misleading numbers in its coverage on adolescent gender-affirming care. Overemphasis on regretAs in other Times stories on trans healthcare, a small number of detransitioners get a disproportionate amount of column space. Over-emphasizing stories of detransition, regret and complications by using disproportionate sourcing is common in the Times’ gender-affirming care coverage.
