Namibia has broken ground on the Hylron Oshivela Project which puts it at the forefront of first-time industrial green steel production in Africa. The project, a partnership between Namibian and German companies, will use renewable energy to produce zero-emissions iron for green steel. The HyIron Oshivela Project will employ direct reduction techniques with green hydrogen. Of interestIFC partnership to support green steel production in EgyptRainer Baake, Special Envoy for German-Namibian Energy and Climate Cooperation, highlights the project’s importance in establishing a green hydrogen economy and decarbonising downstream industries. Minister in the Namibian Presidency, Christine // Hoebes, emphasised the significance of the HyIron Oshivela Project for global decarbonisation.
