Naps and weekend lie-ins DON'T compensate for lack of sleep

Daytime napping and weekend lie-ins are typically not enough to compensate for getting less than six hours sleep a night during the week, a study has found. Researchers from France studied the sleep habits of more than 12,000 adults — finding that one-in-three suffered from short sleep and sleep debt during the week. So-called 'sleep debt' of up to 60 minutes was also reported by 28 per cent of those surveyed, while 19 per cent had a sleep debt of up to 90 minutes. 'Napping and weekend catch-up sleep only compensated for severe sleep debt in one in four subjects.'
