Lawmakers on Thursday gave the BBI a clean bill of health with an overwhelming vote in support of the first amendment. MPs for the first time attained the required two thirds majority to vote on a bill to amend the constitution. Most allies of Deputy president William Ruto rejected the bill during the vote that largely took cue from the political alignments in the country. Eyes will now be trained on the Senate which is expected to vote on the bill next week. The BBI bill was debated in the National Assembly since last Wednesday.
